The composition of colostrum changes with time since production. The number of ingredients decreases in favor of sugars and lipids containing energy materials.
In colostrum there is lactose (milk sugar), but its content is much more available than in later milk. This is sufficient to provide sources of energy and regulate the composition and activity of the intestinal microflora (due to the breakdown of lactose for milk consumption).
However, the amount of milk sugar in the colostrum collected within a few hours after use is so small that it does not occur in people suffering from lactose intolerance.
