Acidification of the Organism

Acidification of the Organism

- Categories : Articles

Recently, the topic of acidification of the body has gained a lot of popularity. In the media, we can often hear what acidifies our body and how badly it affects our health, mainly in the case of diseases such as Lyme disease. Do we really need additional support for our body to maintain an optimal acid-base balance?

WHAT IS THE ACID-BASE BALANCE?

"The acid-base balance of the body is a state in which a specific ratio of cations and anions in body fluids is maintained, conditioning their appropriate pH and the proper course of nutritional processes."

In solutions with a pH <7, the concentration of hydrogen ions is higher than that of hydroxyl ions and such solutions are acidic, while in solutions with a pH> 7 the concentration of hydroxide ions is higher, so such solutions are alkaline. pH = 7 is a neutral reaction.

WHAT pH IS IN OUR ORANISM?

Let's start with the fact that our body has a different pH depending on its location. From alkaline in pancreatic fluid, through neutral blood, to highly acidic gastric juice. Popularly, however, all these values are reduced to the "pH of our body", which specifically means the pH of the blood and is in the range of 7.35-7.45.

HOW DOES A DIET SUPPORTING OUR PH LOOK LIKE?

Acid-forming products:
- meat
- cheeses
- fish
- eggs
- grain products

Alkaline products:
- vegetables
- fruit

In the "deacidifying" diet, our body should consume alkaline products and avoid acid-forming products.

Let's start with the fact that we can influence the blood pH level in the range of as little as 0.01 to 0.02 units by diet! Yes, urine pH may change from 1.0 to 1.2 units depending on our diet, but urine has a very large change limit. Depending on the day of the cycle or hygiene, it can be acidic (approx. PH = 5) or alkaline (approx. PH = 8). In this case, the 1 unit change caused by the diet is no longer as spectacular.

Diet in the case of Lyme disease is very important. Both during antibiotic therapy and the use of herbs, e.g. the Buhner protocol, let's take care of proper metabolic support. It is worth following some of the principles of the "deacidifying body" diet and introducing regular consumption of vegetables and fruit into our menu. However, let's not forget about the rich in omega-3 fatty acids - fish or whole grain cereal products, characterized by a large amount of fiber.

The combination of the herbs of the Buhner protocol with a balanced diet, physical activity and stress reduction is a recipe for effective combating the symptoms of Lyme disease and its co-infections.
