Propolis, also known as Bee glue, is often called a natural antibiotic. Propolis is rich in active substances andit has many healing properties. It is used for treatment of many diseases including hemorrhoids, hypertension or hyperhidrosis.

What exactly is propolis?

Propolis is a dense substance with a sticky consistency, used by bees to lining the inside of the hive, which allows to seal its structure and protect against pathogens. It is a mixture of resin of trees and shrubs and secretions of bee glands. Its chemical composition depends mainly on the vegetation of the geographical area from which it originates and the breed of bees, the season or the degree of environmental pollution. The main components of propolis are:

- vegetable resins (50-80%),
- waxes (8-30%),
- polyphenols (14-16%),
- flower pollen (5%).

Propolis is also rich in tannic substances, terpenes, flavones, organic acids, lipid-protein substances, nutrients (calcium, manganese, magnesium, zinc, tin, copper, silicon, iron, aluminum, silver, sodium, potassium, chromium, strontium, barium, cadmium, vanadium, titanium) and vitamins (A, vit. B1, wit. B2, B5, B6, C, D, E).

It is estimated that up to 300 substances contained in propolis have active biological activity. That is why the propolsi is often used in pharmacological products and as a means of supporting the functioning of the body or supporting immunity.

Properties of propolis
